PREMISE:
Two brothers inherit a gemstone from their astronaut-father which has the ability to transmute lead into gold. Their discovery upsets the powers-that-be just in the nick of time.
SYNOPSIS:
In a world where cities reach heights undreamed of in past centuries, the solar system, and its scores of little moons, have been almost completely explored. The first to set foot on Titan, 6th moon of Saturn, was CMD. GODARD. While there, Godard obtains a gemstone which he slips through Earth-quarantine.He gives it to his youngest son, GARY, in a pendant as a birthday present and warns him to never reveal the source of this Titanstone. But Gary, a care-free, if not somewhat irresponsible, drummer in a futuristic rock band, inevitably gets in trouble.
One day, while in chemistry class talking to his on-again ex-girlfriend, TRINA, Gary accidentally dunks his pendant into a beaker of some chemical. The Titanstone falls in, replicating a small bead of yellow metallic substance. When Gary shows the bead to GIL, his older more-sober brother, he realizes what they have in their hands: a potentially infinite source of pure gold.
Excited beyond belief yet hesitant about withholding the discovery from his supervisors, Gill receives news that their father has suddenly died in local Saturn space. Knowing fully well that the triumvirate of evil powers controlling the Solar System, DELACROIX (all science systems), IBUKA (all banking systems) and MAIHEEM (all security systems), would stop at nothing to confiscate their discovery, the brothers are not able to discount foul play. Thus, Gil, Gary and Trina are forced to make a dangerous choice, forget about their discovery forever or use it to the max.
Reluctantly accepting the benefits of the later, they decide to go deep under cover (disguised as a rock n' roll band on tour) while brilliantly manufacturing and storing a continuous stream of gold to finance their expanding activities, operations that grow to incorporate their bored, mindless and zealous friends, the SPACE TECHIES.
In time the brothers are able to create and store thousands of tons of pure gold and stay out of the clutches of Delacroix and his evil cronies. So successful are they -- they are not only able to get the BAND into top shape -- but build enough resources to launch an expensive research project into exactly what happened to their father.
They find that their father had discovered a brown-dwarf companion star orbiting the Sun several light-days past the solar system's outer limits (the Oort Cloud). They find that he tried to tell the PEOPLE OF EARTH about it and the ominous repercussions of this millennium-shaking discovery. And lastly they find that this discovery was to be known only to HEISENBERG (CEO of the Solar System), his evil triumvirate of Solar System controllers and an elite group of insiders which numbered about one percent of the Solar System's population. This is why Cmd. Godard was terminated.
In this age, there is no such thing as war. No need for it. Everyone is completely "rational" and has all the possessions they could "want" through the "miracle" of nanotechnology. Thus everyone lives a "calm," metered-out, high-tech, feudalistic existence where all are "cared" for by the "benign" government powers-that-be. It's the "perfect" socialist society. Thus, in a mostly non-violent matching of high-tech wits throughout the balance of the picture, the brothers, Trina, their entourage of musicians, space techies -- and the 50,000 friendly, gold-loving lawyers, accountants and computer programmers they have been able to place on retainer -- are able to create a new balance of power.
Inevitably, the powers-that-be begin to cede control of Earth, 8 planets and their 37 moons (with a population of 350 million) as their diabolical plan, a plan so ruthless, its pure incredulity has been its best disguise for decades -- moves into high gear.
The picture ends with a surprising, positive twist, one that cannot be revealed here because it's top secret, knowable only to those who carefully read the screenplay, ECOSPHERES, intended as a 3-hour epic feature or a 2-part special movie-of-the-week.
